WHAT HAPPENED IN 2007 \ YOUTH DAY

Youth Day 2007 was aimed at young people aged between 14 and 16 years old who can attend the event as part of a school group.

The theme for this year's event was  Road Safety. The various activities planned for the students encouraged them to consider the wider context of road safety and the specific safety issues with regards to motorcycles and mopeds, not only from the perspective of the rider, but also the perspective of other road users and their consideration of vulnerable road users.

Treasure Hunt

The Youth Day 2007 Treasure Hunt lead students around the vast show visiting a wide variety of stands and features answering questions related to safety in the following areas:

  • General Road Safety
  • Helmets and Clothing
  • The Environment and Travel and Tourism
  • Motorcycle Choices
  • Insurance

The questions related to information that could be found on the stands and encouraged further discussion with the teacher/accompanying worker.

The helmets and clothing section guided students towards retailers to look at the products on display and ask questions related to the importance of safety clothing. This is an extremely important issue particularly with the young moped riders who ride in inappropriate clothing.

The environment and travel and tourism section is closely linked with the motorcycle choices section. Students were asked to consider the safety issues related to using vehicles abroad, the choice of vehicles and the impact on the environment.
